The End of Thngs!

This has been a very detailed and sometimes overwhelming insight into what is available on the internet!

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey? My favorite things were blogs (which I am using now for college course work!), mashups and the PODCASTS! It was cool of you to save one of the best for so close to the end!

How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals? My life long goals have not really changed since I considered myself a lifelong learner already but since my masters degree is being done on-line it is so awesome to have an idea and insight into all the things available.

Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? Yeah, I was soooo computer illiterate and I had no idea all these different things were available . I am glad to have been introduced to RSS feeds to use in college research and all the wonderfulplaces to find things to make my classroom more interactive and to use in the Activboard flipcharts.

What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept? Not a thing I can think of - any more information would be overwhelming and you haveincluded somuch already. Maybean advanced class for those who are willing to learn more in depth items. I have enough info to keep me learningfor a longtime!

If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you choose to participate? If I have mastered( or nearly) all these I would bethrilled tolearn more or tolearnof other areas!

How would you describe your learning experience in ONE WORD or in ONE SENTENCE, so we could use your words to promote 23 Things learning activities? The Internet in 23 steps?
Now go and comment on some of the other Players' blogs?

Thing 22 : Nings

As an "older" person I have never gotten into MySpace or Facebook. I can see some value in this forum idea for the sharing of teacher related issues and curriculum and instruction sharing. I could not getinto the onelisted in the assignment for teachers butI was able to get onthe following sites which I thoughthad value:

http://education.ning.com/ which contains gadgets that rock and has relevant forums for the improvement of classroom and professional development

http://mathteachersrus.ning.com/ which is a collaboration siteformathteachers and coaches!

Thing 21: Podcasting

This was sooo much fun. I can see me using this to create things for my kids as both introductions to new units and for review prior to tests. Just adding the music is so cool -they would much rather here that than me! I found Audacity harder to use that PhotoStory and was pleased to see that photo story was so easy to use! I did have some issues getting it to download into the blog.

Blog Id:6524143606695806888Video Id:6d749396d9f8bc7d is reported evertime so I will continue to try.

Thing20 VIDEO!

Ok this looks really cool.I found things at both the video links that would be neat to have access to. TeacherTube was easier to embedded than YouTube but there were many useful videos in both places. This embedded video deals withabsolute value, a basic skill in Algebra, that I think would "catch" the kids simplyby being a different way of seeing the information.

Thing 19 Web2.0

I was amazed at all the sites that were out there for all these categories and was impressed that so many of the ones library2play had already sent us to to explore. I love del.icio.us and was excited it won for bookmarking! Flikr won for photos and yahoo!answers is a siteI use and was glad to see it made the roll!
YouTube looks great from things I have seen on other blogs but as usual Spring Branch has it blocked! I have never really gotten into My Space or Face Book and Twitter is blocked too so I still don't know what the big thing is about these socialization site.
ThenYahoo!Pipes information is blocked as are Yourminis for Widgets.

I will attempt to find time to get over onto another server or sign in again on my own internet so I can view some more of them.
LOTS OF COOL TOOLS!!

Thing 18

I am sure if Microsoft Office were unavailable to me that Open Office would be useful. All the systems in office (or maybe just the ones I us) are familiar to me in M.W.. I tried downloading two versions(English and Spanish to see if it would translate between the versions for those dual letters home but, the system wouldn't let me. I will have to do some more checking on that!

Google Docs is another matter. I can see me using it since it has a shortcut to all the other Google services I have discovered so far in this web play thing. The action toolbars and commands are very similar to M.W. and so they feel comfortable. It is also available OFFLINE so you can work on documents when you are not connected!

Thing 17 WOW this is cool! Rollyo!

I am truly amazed. I created 2 - one of course for travel to Ireland - but the other was created using the start of a shared search roll for Latino Issues. I searched then for Latino issues in teenagers( I do teach middle school) and learned way more than I thought I would. Look at it if you have a few seconds!

Thing 16 WIKIWIKI

Wow, an interactive web site where all can view, edit ,and delete information?? I think this would work great for team minutes and also for group planning! I am so glad to have del.icio.us to keep track of all this so I can play more as we go along!

Thing 15

The thing here for Library2.0 is very amazing but is also very disturbing. While e-library's for the rural schools are an awesome idea, and where catalogues of many resources is admirable: what of the joy of sitting in the den with a BOOK????
What is the choice?? A PC or a book???

On a personal note: I am thinking that at 50 , I can see more and more of my "comfort zone" disappearing.

Think 14

I did not find this site to be much different except for the video feeds. Those were pretty awesome! However, since it is you-tube and the district security blocks it , it is not included here.

Delicous??? Thing 13

Furl and Ma.gnolia are good but since the Spring Branch school where Iwork had us use del.icio.us for the lap top roll over this is my choice! I could hardly believe how many sites were bookmarked for my core subject!!

I have been going back add adding all these sites to del.icio.us!

Thing 12

Well, this was certainly interesting. Commenting is more complex than it looks. It has its own set of rules (most of which are common sense or common courtesy). I wrote on the 5 blogs in our group, either complementing on their site or on it's appearance. I even came across one blogger who had me feeling so at home she could have been writing on my blog! I had a harder time on the other blogs. I either felt like I was in the middle of a conversation I didn't completely understand or I felt like an interloper. I went to ones on the National Board for Professional teachers and felt totally lost. I went to search out algebra but ended up with lesson plans and teachers individual sites.
I can see this will take more practice. I will add to this post when I feel more comfortable and actually join a conversation outside the group.

Thing 11

I think I would really like to use this to keep track of new books I want to read and to keep up with the books I have already gotten for my grandaughter who reads as much if not more than me.

RSS again? Thing 9

I made a listing of blogs for travel or vacationing in Ireland
http://www.google.com/reader/view/#stream/user%2F11977648437468517594%2Fstate%2Fcom.google%2Freading-listat
Google reader was the easiest and allowed the new info (vacations in Ireland) to be added to my account thatalready existed.

I found Syndic8 to beconfusing and I think there is way too much information on all.

Thing 8: RSS

I am not really sure how I would use this to teach Algebra but I caan see the value for current events, changes in laws that interestyou, or just what is going on in the area where you live. I created a list that will tell about current events in Ireland to keep up with the theme going on here.

Google World -Thing 7

Google Notebook is amazing. I am traveling toIreland and this will keep me from having to print it all. Take the laptop to Ireland and see it all at a glance. I will have a great time as I continue to build this notebook.

Calendar function. This calendar is sharable and upgradeable so I can put in my plans, my vacations items, and even leave diary type items to share with familyand friends. I have been sharing with the parents of my grandchildren!!

Thing 6 : Ireland trading card

This was the coolest thing in the mashup section. We can do the most wonderful way to share photos but it is also a super way to teach vocabulary and review math skill!

Ireland Trading card-Thing 6

These were the coolest things for a math teacher in this mashup section. It was fun to create and I can thinkof lots of ways to use them!

Sharing photos, matching math skills with problems, vocabulary lessons, etc.

Ireland forest

Thing 5: FLICKr is so cool. I aim to travel to Ireland in the near future and the pics are amazing. The tab for Ireland has photos from several sources so all the things you think of are there. You are also given information and insights into them on certain peoples pics that would behelpful for your own Irish adventure!

Let me register!

Thing 4: Looks like I am done playing. I will register this in the morning so I can continue to play. The whole system seems to be a way tolearn about all techy things and I will sign in to play some more after the big r is complete.
Thing 3: Ok, this blog buisness is much easier than I thought it would be. I guess we will see if the others are as easy to manuever in as this!
Thing 2 : It appears I am a life long learner. At age 50 I am going to school for my masters degree and learning about the internet as well. I think that PLAY item may need some looking into!
Thing 1:This seems like a great way to learn all those things that the kids already know. I am not a tech whiz but am ready to learn!

looking good

Unfortunately this is the close as I could get with Avatar - I WISH I looked this good!
